Suzanne and I were lucky enough to spend the day at the Derby yesterday.  It was a realy great day with plenty of fun and friends.  Of course, even with all of the socializing that goes on at any Louisvillian affair, we managed to cash a ticket on Street Sense in the Derby.

These were shot from our seats

    Coop,
Didn't get to meet the Queen but we did see a "look alike" which was kinda fun. The weather held out for everyone and it was a terrific day. Maybe we could re-institude those famous Derby rallies one of these years.

We had a REALLY good time. Derby around here started two weeks ago with "Thunder Over Louisville" which is an airshow and fireworks show over the Ohio. It's a two week party and days of racing...the rest of the world only sees the actual Derby race on TV.  Completely different experience here.

I have to say, when they sing "My Old Kentucky Home," the hair on the back of your neck stands up.  It's just amazing to be there.

It also doesn't hurt to have these three as your box mates.  We're very lucky men here in Kentucky.  (the one in the middle married me for some strange reason)

Big weekend!  Indy five hundred, which my youngest son is attending, and Memorial Day.  Veteran's Day is one thing, but Memorial Day is more somber.  Please don't forget all those who gave their all for us, even if you didn't or don't agree with the politics of the time.  Many of them had no choice in the matter.

If you have never visited the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Arlington Cemetary, try to visit on Memorial Day if you can.  I have when I lived in the area, and it is very moving.

P.S.  Don't mess with the honor guards!  They take their duty very seriously.

God Bless our brave troops where ever they are.
