Gear Vendors upped mpg!

    Recently back from our first big trip since the Gear Vendor install. (Sent the procedure w. photos) to the forum, but it never got added .)  A headwind the first leg (50+mph) was enough to have my husband silent on the mileage calcs. Then we had some smoother weather and got 10.5 per gal.  He is a happy camper. It was lot of work and expense, so he was glad to see some positive results--especially at current gas prices!

    Glad to hear that your GV upgrade was a success. My bad on not posting your article. I never converted it to the article format. If you still have a copy post it on this thread or resend it and I'll put in the downloads.

    having read several posts re: gear venders i just had to check them out.

    not suprised, from what i read, that you are getting beter mpg's.

    with the cost of the GV unit being $3000 for our MH, has anyone figured how long it would take for a break even payback?

    area there other advantages that i am not realizing? i know that the rpm of the engine will drop and this will, in theory, make the engine last longer. but with this technology not having been around when most of our MH's were built, does that mean that the manufactures did not plan for the higher rpm's to be a part of the working life of the engine?

    thanks for the input. just trying to understand the benefits.

    I'm new here BUT The GEAR vendors over drive theroy has been around as long as motor homes have been around. just look the big rig trucks. they have many more gears. IT is the moptor home people tthat shortchanged the general public. WHAT with the outrageous cost of any new motor home.what would be the harm of just building them with the G.V O.D already installed a couple thousand more dollars?
    so what.BUT they wee not think of gas molage back then. BUT HOW does that answer to the shortage of the late 70's they didn't make a change then did they?
    because they don't care. they expect you to deal with it and get rid of your unit in 5 years for a better model..
    THE overdrive is to make an over all improvement to your engine and transmission life span.
    to give you netter performance on hills which may return some milage results.
    and just easier wear and tear on a lot of moving parts that will wear out more slowly...
    When you read that first intro duction to the over drive it seem s so simple of a reason to have one.
    AND that is the real reason to have one. IT IS a simple solution to alot of expensive wear and tear.
    think of the dollars spent to replace the engine and transmission in THE event of one real good hard over heating hill climb. when you think just one more mile and BOOM it's cooked and dead. IF that happoens because you have been pushing thoise RPMs while you cross the the rockies . or even some places in the east when you are all day crossing mountains on a hot sticky summer day.
    One tiny leak in a ten dollar hose can kill 10 thousand dollars worth of drive train.
    I think that is where the Overdrive comes in to save the day. by giving you the correect set of usable gearing for a vehicle that should have been built with one in the first place...
    I don't one a overdrive.but i have started my saving for one already...

    GV was our final up grade to our drive train, should have been the first. Probably would have saved some money on the engine mods. With headers, mufflers,roller rocker arms, intake and carb mods we are getting about 10.8 mpg with toad so we are very happy.
