Hopefully this isn't too dumb a question, but...
I was nosing around my recent acquisition, a 1983 Executive Diplomat, and read through the Chevy P30 Service Guide. I know the battery isolator is bad and that the previous owner "bypassed" it. But after hunting around the battery compartment, I see nothing that looks like an isolator. I did find a couple thin, red wires leading from both the 'house' and 'chassis' battries leading up toward the enging and that's where I plan to look tomorrow.
Just hoping someone could tell me where I should be looking for the isolator and/or where it was installed at the factory on the P30 chassis.
Thanks, Chad

Should be close to the alt. Mine has 8 gage wire from the alt. hot to the isolator. there will be two wires coming of the isolater, One around 10 gage going to the starter hot and the other should be a 8 gage to your home battery bank! They sometimes screwed around with the wiring codes and you could have a white wire for the hot coming from the isolater to your home bank. Mine is about two feet from the engine and closer to the alt. |

I have a 1986 Chevy Honey Class A, I am having issues with the isolators. There are 2 on the firewall and 1 on top of the motor mounted on rubber. I have been having problems plugged in or running the generator with something drawing the batteries down. Last night after replacing the front coils, air bags, and shocks decided to take a spin. Well the bottom of the 2 on the fire wall melted it got so hot. We completely disconnected it, and everything still ran. I have not a clue. Anyone have any idea's. Thanks. |

I would remove them and trace all wires coming and going ! remove ALL said wites and Re install New wires and Isolaters as shown in the manual. this may also lead you to some other inconsistency and Unwanted whatever ??? But I would sure want to know what got them HOT and Melted the previous units ??? They were incorrectly connected to something |
