roof replacement
By mb0921 @ 9:25 PM :: 240 Views :: 1 Comments :: :: Engine - Chevy, Chassis - P30

Hey campers, I have a 1994 Newmar Dutchstar, it needs a new roof. The old one is white in color yet it appears to be like a plastic material not rubber. I looked at the EPDM rubber roof material and it really is rubber, it stretches like rubber. The Dutchstar roof is a hard solid white material. The point of my article is regarding installing the EPDM over a metal substrate. Most requirements are to install Luan on the roof and use water based adhesive to glue down EPDM. I called around asking how to install EPDM on a metal substrate. Why not nail down some Luan? Because knowing there are seams on the roof will drive me nuts. So a representative from Silicone Solutions said I could use a silicone product because it adheres to metal and EPDM. Well that sounds great for my aplication. However He said the EPDM has to be fully cured, not oily. I want to put EPDM over the existing metal roof because fastening 1/8 - 1/4 Luan is not something I desire to do. I want to replace what was there as close to original as posible. Oh yea the Motorhome manufacturer said  follow Dicor  roof instructions. Well like I said I don't want to install plywood on the roof.  Finally the question in this article. Has anyone glued a EPDM roof to an exsisting metal roof.

Have you considered Rhino coating for your roof?
