Hi all,

My sewer hose was finally giving out and it was time to replace it. I was at a sporting/boating/camping store somewhere and bought a new hose with no fittings. I thought I would save some money and just replace the hose. But then I discovered that I needed clamps for the hose. I stopped at Camping World one weekend on my way up to the MH. No luck. Well as a side note, Camping World should be avoided at all costs anyway!

I found some nice sewer hose clamps at a Walmart on another weekend trip to the MH and though all was good! I took the fitting off the old hose and matched it up to the new hose. There was no way in the world that I would get this new hose over this fitting. The new "standard" hose seems to be just a bit smaller in diameter.

Ok, I had enough over Christmas and decided to just go into town, (at least a three hour trip down the mountain and back by the time it was all over mind you), and just get a new hose with fittings already attached. I bought the really nice setup, one with two 10 foot sections of hose. Great! I'll have this hooked up as soon as I get back up the mountain and I can drain the gray water and wash those dishes from two nights ago.

BUMMER! Well I actually used a few other nice words instead. The fitting that connects to the drain on the Airstream is not the "standard" fitting that every trailer supply in the world seems to carry today. The Airstream fitting is actually slightly bigger and shaped a little different. A few more choice words exited my mouth. Well I cut the new fitting off the new and expensive hose and attached the old fitting to the new hose.

The way to get a fitting on to the hose is to soak the hose in hot water for a bit and then use needle nose plyers to pull the hose over the fitting. Don't forget to put the hose clamp over the hose before you pull the hose over the fitting. No, I didn't forget...I'm sure if I had, they could haver heard me swear all the way down the mountain and back into town!

I also don't like the fitting that seems to be at the other end of all these sewer hoses today as well. It is a ninety degree fitting with three sets of different sized threads on it. Well the cast iron pipe coming out of the ground is also a ninety degree pipe and nothing fits snuggly. I guess I just don't understand!

Well anyway all is working. The fitting at the Airstream side is fine. I'm just worried that if someday it breaks, where am I going to find the right one? If anyone knows what is going on here, please let me know. I suspect the Airstream is using a different manufacturer and I just need to look in the right place for them.
