HELP!!!
just got the chassis battery charged up (was down to 3.6!!!) put it back in and tested the isolator. getting a full 12.8 from the center (alternator ) terminal.
been looking on line and the more i look the more confused i get!!!
ours is a Surge Power Products model 1202, 120a rated, negative ground.
have found several different options but.......PPL says they have one for chevy 454 with "CS" alternator. what is that?
they also state that we need an 80amp inline fuse for it to work. what? why? am i already supposed to have this?
please help!!! the wrinkles on the outside are beginning to take over the inside!!!

just got it completed weekend before last. the isolator was bad, had one heck of a time finding one! checked the auto parts stores, the marine parts stores, the rv parts stores, even went so far as to call the kids "boom box" installers!!! no one had a 120. some didn't even know what i was talking about, and one of the boom box places only installs a 240! went to a local owned shop (son and part time dad) and they ordered for me on thursday and had it one friday. took the old one out and.....surprises!! even thought the mfgr. and model #, the mounting was different. o.k., got it mounted and.....surprise!!! the studs for the wires are larger than the old one, so had to put new terminals on each of the wire ends. also, moved the 12v fuse panel wire from the chassis to the house the way the wiring schematics showed it was supposed to be. what i thought would be 2 hrs. or so quickly became a 5 hr. project. but, everything works now and the charging system is happy once again!! |

what i thought would be 2 hrs. or so quickly became a 5 hr. project. but, everything works now and the charging system is happy once again!! I understand fully. I think there is a law about this. It "sometimes" works in reverse when you figure it will take 5 hours and takes 2. This happens only when you have cancelled all sorts of things to find time to do the job.
Glad your electric is now working properly. I have to read up on this area and then see what I have and go from there. Mine works but I want to prepare for when it fails in some remote area of nowhere.
