Not sure how all that stuff works but sounds good to me.

Get it set up.  I've got some more manuals to add.

needless to say, we are not very happy rilght now!

I'm not sure about "pdf's", but open office will do more than "Office" right now and they are adding more all the time.  It's free, so why not download it and give it a try to find out.

Okay, I opened OpenOffice and it will "export" as a "pdf".  It won't open a pdf, but since the Acrobat reader is free, you don't need to.

i'll download it and give it a try!

you know, it's really a shame.....i am on a select group for yahoo roundtable to discuss and find/correct things with the BETA system and i am also on a MS preferred feedback panel.....don't seem to get much of anywhere with MS but yahoo is VERY responsive!

OpenOffice is a work in progress.  A consortiam of Universities are developing it to compete with MS Word and more.  It is updated quite often and will already do more than my old copy of Office would do.  What's more, it is almost transparent.  If you can use Office, you can use OpenOffice.  I have been using it for almost a year now with not one problem.

o.k. i downloaded the "open office" and it didn't "look" right so i did a repair. still do not have anything but "files" that need me to designate "what from where".

what did we miss in the download? have sent the "help" a message(friday pm). still have nothing to work with.

You downloaded the files for programers to use.  Since this is open arcitheture anyone can offer options that they develop.  You need to download the user version.  That will include the "Installer".

Try this link
http://download.openoffice.org/2.3.1/contribute.html?product=OpenOffice.org&os=winwjre&lang=en-US&version=2.3.1
Then "click to download". I reinstalled mine at home the other day.
