| We were traveling on IH40, going to Laughlin, and this awful squealing sound started coming from the area of the right front tire. Luckily, we were going thru Kingman, and could pull off the road into a Flying J lot. Good Sam ERS gave us the # of a truck repair (freightliner affiliated) place, that could look at it. It seems that the bearings froze up, and metal-on-metal chewed up a lot of internal stuff. Anyway, they’re having trouble finding replacement parts. You’d think the P30 would be a common chassis, but I guess not.....We have a 1989 345LE, does anyone have a parts source?

| It's a pretty common school bus chasis. Here in the Midwest we can get parts at CATCO. I would think there would be lots of suppliers who would have the parts. Check with a school bus comp0any. |

Thanks, Cooper...I have had this trouble before...ask for a part for an Airstream 454, and they will almost always say they doubt if they can get it...the skepticism is still there when you tell them IT"S A 454...I went to a NAPA store today to get the parts #s list to give these folks...the only thing NAPA couldn't find was the spindle...will keep this posting till I can finish 'fighting city hall'...I'll tell them about the school bus contact and hope they have one...

I have almost stopped even saying Airstream when looking for chassis parts for the motorhome. tell em it's a p30 and they stop with the negativity about Airstream.

| I agree. I don't even mention Airstream, motorhome, anything. I say I have a 1986 Chevy P30 Van with a 454 in it. That's all they need and almost everyone I've used (NAPA, AutoZone, Pep Boys, O'Reilly's) has parts for it on the shelf. The only exception is for brakes and radiator as there is a different system for the motorhome chassis. |

Tracy, I just did a search on NapaOnline.com for a 1989, Chevy Truck, P30 1 Ton Step Van Wheel Bearing and came up with this page: http://www.napaonline.com/MasterPages/NOLMaster.aspx?PageId=430&Keyword=wheel+bearing&KeywordCat=Wheel+Bearing+-+Front+Wheel&VehCode=Y Also, there is a NAPA located in Laughlin (right off I40) here: http://www.napaautocare.com/locator/StoreLocatorResults.aspx?Zip=89028&Search=ZipSearch&queryRadius=10&searchtype=0&x=10&y=13 |

Steven,
we are in Kingman, and I have been to the NAPA here for the initial 'education' of the parts and service departments of Great West Truck Center...I'm waiting for them to get over my audacity in suggesting that I might know what I'm talking about even if I don't know how to fix it...

| Well keep us all posted. Breaking down is bad enough....breaking down surrounded by "geniuses" is downright unbearable. I'll PM you my cell if you need a voice in the dark to talk through any of this. |

the continuing saga...
I was told the parts were ordered and would be in Monday. I went in today, and they had located a spindle in Nebraska, but still haven't been able to find a hub...they hadn't ordered the spindle, yet...I found a hub at a NAPA, but it was an 8-bolt configuration, and we need a 5-bolt configuration...
Steve, I will probably call you this evening.
Cooper, if you could post a number for CATCO, I would appreciate it.
The hub #(chevy)is 015585443, and Great West Trucking Center tells me it's obsolete...
I feel like we've fallen into a worm hole.

Well, I am still trying to figure out why they say obsolete when they made the same part for the P-32 all the way till what 06???? I replaced both and bearings three years ago and the local Checy had them in stock!!! I have yet to have a problem with finding 5 or 8 bolt hubs out here as we have helped out a couple of friends down here. I am getting ready to replace the brake pads here and they asked if I wanted the Reybestos or the Ceramic's? Had both in stock!! What part of the world are you in??? I could see it if you ae in a area that don't have much rv business but hee thats the numbere one thing on the lists out here in Tucson. Would you like me to do an inquary?? I know tthat its a chevy P-30 and you need spindles for both fronts and the 5 bolt hubs right? I will try our friends here and see what is the deal? Tell you tomorrow, Dan
