I got a new water heater for my 24 foot 74 Argosy motor home.  I was all excited, hooked up all the electric and propane lines. Got everything perfect, except when I turned on the propane (the gage reads full), nothing happened.  So I got under and looked at the propane tank, rusty.  Not just a little surface rust, but major rust.  I wouldn't trust putting any kind of pressure in it.  So has anyone ever run into this problem before?  Any idea about how to get a new tank to go under there?  Are they standardized or made specifically for the Argosy?  Any kind of knowledge you can contribute to my dilemma would be useful.  Thanks

I had mine out last fall. The valve stem leaked when it was opened. If I opened it all the way and back seated it, then it did not leak. Anyway it had been rusty, not bad, just surface. They are made of heavy wall steel. Only 4 bolts hold it in. Use a floor jack to lower it. The tank is pretty heavy. I took it to a local dealer, they installed a new valve and re-certified the tank. I must have pics if you need them? Before I put it back in, I painted it with Rustolium Surface arrestor then enamel.

hello. I'd take it to a gas fill er or where they have tanks and let them check it out. they make propane tanks for the moho.if you go on yahoo look up propane tanks.they were running about $325.00but have the tank checked out first.some rv repair shops can do this.

Please get some shots!

I have been thinking of doin mine. It is a 100 lbs tank. Goes from the front tire flap to the door!

I was thinking when I paint it of using POR15 primer and paint. It ain't cheep, but should be the last time it will need to be done.

I'm having a problem with the inside level read out. The gage works on the tank, have checked the wire, ok, but level indicator does not respond. It just shows full all the time! All of the other tanks work fine.

If you find out anything about the gage and replacement (I guessing thats what I need) that would be great.

Good luck this weekend.

I copied this from a posting over on Airstreamforums.  It was posted by gunworks.  I have the same provlem with mine.

After spending two years with our Land Yacht, and running out of propane twice, finally decided to work on the on-board monitor. Propane tank always read full. Checked ground, wiring, etc. I pulled the sending unit from the face of the gauge and noticed some little metal thingy's ratteling around inside the sending unit. I took this as sending unit failure and after e-mailing Rochester Gauges, was supplied with local distributor who would "NOT" sell me the unit. Luckily, I have an account with our local co-op and they were able to order the part for me and I could go to the distributor to pick up. Monitor panel now gives the correct reading. If anyone has this problem on older LY the part is a 0-90 ohm GM part #IP5628S0237 Twinsite Sending Unit, screw on type. This new part number replaces the older unit (5-2063), which had two male terminals, and the wires must be soldered together. The new unit comes with instructions, replacement screws and two special solder sleeves to make the connections. I paid $41.00 for the new one.
Hope this helps someone else!

Well I got the gage off the tank. It is a Auto Visible by J.Y. Taylor Co. in Garland, TX.

I have not found anything on the web for them. The Rochester gauge P5628S02537, don't think will work. The depth of the gauge don't look like it matches and the screws are about 1/8 wider that my mount.

Don't know what year they changed to the Rochester gauge system, but my 82 don't have it, and the sender in it does not work. I can make it read by shaking it, but looks like its life is up!

Thanks for the help, thought we had it!

Mine reads full all the time as well. It has a toggle switch Roadside/Curbside. I do not have a road side tank.
20' must be too small to stuff one in.

Take a look at your gage on the tank. Mine says its and Auto Visible 90 Ohm.

If it is, will look like my photo. I have found through Thomas Net, I think the company that made these. I will give them a call Monday morning and find out and let you know what I find out.

Could not find any web sites for them and they don't have one listed on Thomas Net.
