Found a supplier for the Auto Visible gage for the older propane tanks.

Chris, did you have to empty the tank to remove the guage?  I would like to repair mine, but my tank is full right now.

You will not have to empty.
 
On the old and new style gage for the tanks, both are driven with a magnet system. The gage does not contact the propane. There is a solid barrier between the float and gage.
 
No problems removing gage with the two small screws.
 
DO NOT REMOVE THE 4 LARGE SCREW ON THE FLANGE!
