Hey tubeowner, did you use heat Shields on the mufflers?

Tubeowner, ACS will help you find a truck shop that works on your system.  They hooked me up with a shop in Columbia SC when I did my rear bags.

Chris, as far as heat sheilds go I'm not sure you'll need them if you do the install correctly.

The headers will drop your exhaust a bit lower than the original manifolds.  When you get back to where you'll put your mufflers just twist them 45 degrees off horizontal.  Then the real trick is the bending if you're going to exit both on the driver side.  The curb side has to go up and over the driveshaft.  If you're going out both sides it should be easy.

Remember the first hanger back of the collectors and in front of the mufflers has to be a "live" hanger to accomodate the torque of the big block.  If you use a rigid hanger you'll break a weld on the header before long.

Just did a half a header job last week and may do the other half .....driver side... this weekend.

All the best.... you're gonna love that big round sound.

Thanks Glen.
Had seen were you ordered another set of headers. I think the elite's should work better.

I'm going to keep it going out both sides and use a H-pipe just behind the trans.

The first set of stock hangers, not good to use?? Was planing to use all the stock hangers.

Thanks for the help. Won't get time to work on it this weekend. Headin down to Ft. Myers tonight in the Saturn to see my Mom.

Everyone have a great weekend. Hope y'all get some camping in!

Well it been a long Summer, and trying to get another rig and trailer on the road for the tractor, I finely got the headers on, pipes up and new front brakes and bearings.

I welded the whole exhaust system, and used the OEM hangers. If I need to get to something, I can drop the whole system from the headers back by un-bolting the mounting u-bolts.

Took it out for a spin tonight, and what a difference in the pick up and the wife likes the great sound as well.

Have nice SS exhaust tips to dress it up a bit.

Still working on the transmission heat problem. Think the temp gage is no telling me the truth. My infrared says its at 145 deg. and the temp gage says 210 deg.!  I have put on a Permacool 30,000 lbs cooler 10 1/2" x 19" and have run Airoquip -8 size lines from the trans to the cooler. A work in progress.

Any way here is some shots of the new exhaust system.
