Can't drink beer and do anything mechanical. Makes me too sleepy. Haven't started yet. Too many "honey do's" to catch up on first. Hopefully this afternoon.

Got into it this afternoon. Raining here so I'm in the storage barn where the light is not so good. Went to Radio Shack yesterday and purchased some connectors for small wires, but its rough in poor light to see what the heck I am doing. Finally got it all wired up though and powered it up and, Walla, it works! Don't know why they have a mirror switch on the camera as the remote will switch it from one to the other right in the drivers seat. I found a way to mount the camera securly in the old round housing and am using a pedestal from an old car phone to raise the monitor a little higher on the dash. Yep, I am taking lots of pictures and there will be a DIY article when I get done. Getr done dude! Anyone need the old camera or monitor? Monitor has only a half screen though.

We seem to fighting backup camera problems at work on a regular basis. Had one that I was to diag. Was having problems with vertical lines and than going blank. This is on a new Fleetwoood. Hooked a known good camera up to it and the problem went away. Replaced the camera with a new one from Fleetwood....worked great when it left the shop. Coach was back a couple weeks later with the same problem......replaced the monitor this time.....worked great and then back in a couple weeks.....have a new cable on order....not looking foreward to pulling the new cable. Sure hope that fixes it. I get to drive a bunch of different coaches and a backup camera is real easy to get used to and would be a must on anything that I would own....also great to monitor a toad as you are heading down the road!

Congratulations on the install. How long did it take? With the height extension it will be interesting to see if your monitor gets the shakes on the road. Happy backing!

Not quite done yet. Keep getting side tracked. Worked on it yesterday and left it to go shoot skeet and trap for a while. Just another worthless retiree. Was having problems splicing all those little wires but finially got it done. Now to figure out where to stow all those extra wires that are part of it. Under the dash I think. Everything works though.

Hi everybody, this is my first post, and I'm glad that there is a forum that is dedicated to classic motorhomes. And a big thank you to CooperHawk for doing this and without a great deal of commercialism. I have just retired the first of this month and after I get caught up on chores around the house I would like to make a serious attempt at getting my A/S motorhome up to snuff. One of the things that I'm contemplating is putting in the rearview camera, I may mount it in the same location as where the remote spotlight goes since I have to get in that area trying to make a huge dent less obvious. If I can find a remote spotlight what I would like to do is mount a small bullet camera on the light. Now that some of you have gone through the pain of figuring all this out I would like to ask some questions. When trying to decide on a camera what should the specification be for the viewing angle? From what I've read I think somewhere in the area of 90° to 110° is about where I want to be. I would like to ask the community if anybody has thoughts on the usefulness of the LED illuminator's that most cameras have. Are they useful when driving at night or does the headlights of the cars behind you make them ineffective. I haven't decided on a display yet but one idea I had was to use a DVD player because most of them do have a NTSC input. The problem I'm having is trying to decide what the brightness and contrast would be acceptable for a bright sunshine application like you would have in a motorhome. This is one of these deals where you won't know until after you try it. If anyone is really happy with their display I would appreciate knowing what the make and model or specs of the display system is. The reason I don't want to buy a package system is because, one is expense of course, but the big reason for me is I would like to integrate backup camera, navigation and the data from the Holly EFI system into a single display. Geting it all working is the hard part. I stuffed all of the extra wire down the hole in the dash. My justification was that it is there so i can pull it out for service..... There was so much that I think it quited a couple of rattles in there.

Hey Shelocta, welcome aboard. I am working on installing a new back-up camera now. seems to be working out just fine. Let you know when I'm done. Hey JK. I also plan to stuff all the wires down the hole. Then I will bag them in plastic and fasten them to the firewall. Lots of extra wire.

Got the rear view camera all done now. Worked out very well too. Was able to use all the original wires and just followed the wiring guide. Happy with it.
