| Looks like a winning combination. Like Buffalo I installed Hedmanns...but I like the sound of the thermal coating. I also installed the H pipe and the free flow (Jegs Brand) mufflers. It made a noticable difference. Plus it sounds awesome! |

Lido&Linda, Welcome to the site! It's good to see you over here. I don't think anyone makes a "kit" for the P30. Most of the header manufacturers make P30 Motorhome specific headers. Then you're talking an H pipe kit and straigh sections, two mufflers, two 90 degree bends and tailpipes are that (along with a bunch of clamps and hangers). I ordered the header, h pipe, bends and tailpipes from Jegs and had it shipped. Then I bought the straight pipe sections locally from NAPA. Make sure you get aluminumized or coated pipes to prevent rust. I think everything cost about $500 not including my labor.
There are a number of members here who've made the "upgrade" to headers. I don't think they are in CA so not sure what the smog implications would be. Replacing the manifolds will remove the AIR injectors from the exhaust. That could definately impact your emissions.
Lastly there are a few techs on here who might answer this question better than me.
Once again welcome! |

Lido&Linda The only known smog legal headers I know of are Banks & Thorleys, It's true about the pricey Banks and the one really BAD thing is the 3 1/2 inch collector which creates problems with "Exhaust reversion" when connected to 2 1/2 plumbing. Thorley tri-y (smog legal) have the 2 1/2 collectors so it's a straight shot thru your pipes, Also take a peek at "Summit racing X-pipe" (SUM-642125) 2 1/2 plumbing which will drag out even more torque over the entire RPM bands ($84.95) instead of the "H-PIPE" which is good. Mufflers are your choice BUT Dynomax or even flowmasters big block mufflers (70 series) will be ok. Odds are your carb will lean out a dab BUT I have NEVER seen a motor home with a Rochester carb lean from the factory unless you have an air leak around it. Jim |

| I visited the both Jegs and Summit and they do sell a kit all tubings and 2 muffler its a freeflow kit, it requires a set of thorley headers.I cant find this headers that will fit my year 1985 bigblock. The kit sells for around $600 and the headers about same. How hard is it to remove the old exhaust man. Knowing those bolts been there all this time, this the part Im worry about.I like to do it my self but worry about breaking an old bolt that will cause me to have the heads removed and caused a snowball. |

http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=DTE%2D303Y%2DDA%2DC&N=700+115&autoview=sku The above is the summit site for the (not so cheap) coated tri-y, The nickel plated are cheaper (mine are nickel). I have installed the same header on my sold 87 (454) and the 83 (454) I now run, Both have the smog fittings with the engine and I'm not going to fight the "smog cops" here in Kalifornia. I soaked my bolts (power blaster) for about 1 week prior to installation and used a small air rachet with 70 PSI so they would NOT twist off, Made it fine BUT many don't so you might hafta get creative IF you break one. My big PITA was and is the dip stick tube which must BE REMOVED and once the old manifolds are off it is easier to swap over the smog tubes also. Another trick used is on all 4 corners of the head I use "bull nosed" (shouldered) bolts so the manifold will slip over and on, One thing about that trick is IF you need to install new gaskets (doubtfull if you use thorley's gaskets) you can notch the gaskets and slip the on the corner bolts without totally removing the manifolds. The bolts are 3/8-16 thread and the length is up to you, I also use stainless 3/8 bolts and torque the down to 25 foot pounds.......After a good heat cycle retorque at 25 foot pounds and forget about them for a long time. Good luck on your project......AND if you hafta (GOD forbid) remove your heads...Get a 20 thousand steel shim gasket (factory stock) and that will bring in your quench area to around 45 thou for a great running engine (less ping and slightly more compression). | check out the pics I just submitted in the winnie section of the gallery. This "X" system is far advanced than regular duals & super quiet on the highway. You WILL hear & feel the difference it almost makes the engine sing Reguardless of the mufflers DO use the X setup from summit racing.
