Welcome aboard Jim.
Have always liked the old GMC units. Think that was the only MoHo made by the big three that was completely built at the factory. I bet you can do some cool things with them. Every time I see one, I think of the movie "Stripes".
I know what you mean about the Velvac and Ramco mounts. I just like the bigger mounts and massive arms along with the bigger mirror area Velvac. Like my wife says at times, I just can't do anything easy!!!!

Hi, I'm currently restoring a 1978 GMC Royale. I am putting the same Velvac Mirrors on my GMC and I need similar adaptor plates so the mirrors stay level. Do you have any detail on your wedges that went between your mirros and the coach? Your help would be much appreciated.

Hey Ray.
I used 1/2" thick alum. to make the wedges. I used the rubber gaskets for the pattern to cut the the wedges after I milled the the angle that I needed. I had it 1/2" to almost 0 on the bottom edge. Your set up might be different. Just place the mirror up to the coach using a level to see what you spacing will need to be to make them level. Best to use the mirrors to mark the hole pattern so you make sure they will line up with the them. Go a couple of sizes over 1/4" so you have some adjustment. I used Vulcum to seal up the plate to the coach.
Hope this helps. Good luck. |

Thanks much Chris, I always enjoy talking with a fellow Christian. We also have a bike, a 2005 Harley Ultra Classic.
Did you need to have a machine shop mill the plates down. I measured mine, I need 1 1/8" at the top and 1/4" at the bottom to keep the mirror level.
Send a few pictures of your coach some time. You can see ours on our web site below. Thanks again.
By the way, we live in the Milwaukee area, where are you located?

Thanks Ray, same here.
I milled the plates myself. (I'm a toolmaker) Yes if you can find a machine shop in the area, that would work. Just make sure that you have the holes drilled square to the surface of the mirror.
My Ultra is the same color as yours! Take a look at the members area and go to CMAdmaxman to see some photos. Also you can go to my webshots and see more: http://community.webshots.com/user/cbwood72
We have our tickets for the 105th and at this time we plan on riding the bikes up the end of Aug. for the event and to work with other CMA'ers to minister there. Would be great to hook up with y'all while there.
We are here in the Mule Capital of the world, Columbia, TN. If you get down this way, we have hook ups and/or an extra bed if riding the bike! |

Sounds great Chris, I will contact some local machine shops. Best part of it was I got a pair of Velvac Model 2025's remote, heated with turn signals absolutely free. A friend of mine works for Velvac locally and got me a set out of their R & D center. So if I have to pay for mounting plates, I still got a super deal.
We too have our tickets for the 105th, it should be a great time and we definitely have to connect up.
Thanks for the info, have a great day and my God Bless You !

Hi Chris
Regarding your mirror adaptor plates, you wouldn't by chance have a drawing of the plate you made would you? That would sure help me to get started.
Thanks

Sorry Ray, don't have any. I just traced the outline of the mount to the plate after it was milled to the angle I needed. Then sawed it out, sanded to the marks I scribed and polished the outer edge.
Good luck. |
