Deborah, wlecome to the site. Can you tell us more about the chassis for your motohome? It's a Dodge? I assume you have a class C on a Dodge Van chassis?

Keep an eye on Ebay.com and Craigslist.org . Good Luck in your quest and please keep us posted!

Hello all, I am a Nurse and decided to take up travel nursing and after my first assignment decided I liked the travel idea but hated the packing and unpacking. So I looked around and lucked into a 1977 Tioga on a dodge chassis and I just drove it from San Francisco to just outside of Houston, I arrived a few days after the hurricane had left so things are in a bit of a mess but I managed to find a place to stay and with a few tips from some people on some yahoo groups managed to get her hooked up for the first time w/o any problems. Now I want to fix this ole girl up a bit and then make some improvements as well. I have been told fleetwood may have the manuals for it ( and I dont see a fleetwood area here) Hope to chat with some of you all soon.

Welcome from one TX Nurse to another. you really did do some traveling for a start. This year i bought a 1986 class CAmerican Coach by Cobra on a 350 Chev. we have enjoyed it to go to dog shows in. The previous owner had replaced the carpet with a new wood floor. He also had upgraded the exhaust system. I am continuing to upgrade. This motor home never had a generator so we added a expanded medal basket to carry the generator. For economy reasons I purchased a outdoor time generator for $1200. instead of a built in generator for $4000. Yes it is nosy but works great and here in Texas we have to have air conditioning.
fThe old coach battery did not hold much charge even with the generator so I added neww coach battery. The tires looked pretty good but I added 6 new tires. The motor runs great and has only required a tune up. At this time she is at the mechanic shop to add suspenion springs which we hope will help the way she handles. Ours sets rather low to the ground and since we are only learning to drive it we took out the black water tank backing over a Mustang Island sand dune.
I have not seen anyone else saying they have much problem with their RV sitting low or with backing up. I would like to put a camera in the back to provide a rear view and to know what is behnd.

I hope this helps with your new motor home. There are lots of things to do.

Hello everyone!   We have four growing boys and love to camp, but our old TT was just too small and so we haven't gone anywhere in quite a while.   After finding one on clearance at a dealership two hours away, we took the leap of faith and traded our TT for a 1995 Fleetwood Searcher class c with quad bunks, 92k miles, and after the trade cost was only 7k.   We realize that we're probably going to have engine problems that surface...any advice on what to expect would be great.  The dealer of course, was no help in that area.  they just want to sell the rig as is....  We aren't that "engine" savy, but have a great mechanic down the road that we already plan to have look it over.   I'm curious (since we don't know anything about motorhome engines) about how many miles to expect out of the engine?  Or is it just like a regular car and will need the repairs of various parts that age over time?  Is there a better RV insurance that would be better for this type of RV, in case we get stranded on the road?  (which i'm sure has never happened to anyone!)

The interior seems in good shape, but just worn of course.  I've already decided the carpet has got to go, but can anyone give me advice on how to accomplish that?  We've done our share of "this 'ole house" but never "this 'ole RV".   Of course, the woman in me can't wait to start remodeling....any ideas?

I'm glad I found this forum, now i don't feel so alone!

hello everyone, my name is Josh and i am new to RVs and full-timing. i got out of the Army about a year ago and now i work as a diesel mechanic at a Freightliner dealership. i found myself spending way too much money on my house and after finding myself living alone it seemed like a no-brainer to move into a travel trailer. well, i bought a 1977 Terry 24' and honestly i should have checked this bad boy out a LOT closer before i bought it. it needs the roof resealed, a small portion of the floor replaced, water heater repaired, water pump repaired, a couple roof joists repaired, about every corner is rotted out, furnace needs repaired, fridge doesn't work on gas OR electric...yea, buyer beware to the 3rd power on this one, lol.

anyway, i plan on fixing it all, i have done some plumbing, electrical and carpentry work in the past, just never messed with an RV. i'm really glad to have found this place so maybe i can get some help with this beast!

Welcome to all you new folks.  don't get discouraged if you don't get answers right away.  The folks on this forum are campers, not talkers.  They are out and about this time of year trying to get in all the traveling they can before winter sets in.  In a few weeks they will be sitting inside and on the computers again with lots of answers.  Meanwhile, check out they "DIY's".  They will probably solve a lot of your questions.

As far a carpeting and such, I replaced our carpet in our MH with Pergoe flooring.  Much nicer and easier to clean.  Its just like replacing it in a house.  Take a box cutter, cut it into pieces, and tear it out.  If any of the sub floor is rotted,  replace it!   Mostly its just taking a deep breath and making that first cut.

Sealing a roof is very important.  Probably need to do it at least every other year.  There is white sealer that you can get that doesn't cause the streaks to run down the side.

Mainly, JUST DO IT!!!  It can be a fun project.

just carefully remove the carpet and install laminate flooring, you will love it.  do it yourself if you can, you will have a better job.  I also advise you to use the stuff between the joints to help keep it from separating while traveling.  We replaced the carpet  in our motorhome and everyone loved it.  Carpet and camping with kids and pets does not match.  Heck it doesn't even match with adults.  Good luck.
