Is my 1977 Imperial 5000 old enuf to be considered a classic? Going from a Jeep Liberty with fuel injection and power everything back to 30 year old technology is sure a learning experience. It'll be nice to get everything in working order and be able to actually live in it. So far, new inside paint, except for the kitchen (new kitchen will come later), new blinds/curtains, new exhaust system, shocks, airbags and a bunch of other stuff.. The electricity works! Don't know if anything else does yet. But with the engine already recammed, new exhaust system, and K&N Xtreme air filter, at idle it rumbles like my Harley! Way cool! One good thing about it... it's pay as you go..no monthly payments! Mary aka Krashdragon

I picked up our '85 Presidential in May. Nearly everything works with the exception of the front air springs and the driver's side w/s wiper. I've been removing the carpet in preparation for installing "linoleum" tile. That's been a bunch of fun - mostly cut and yank. The front carpet will be fun, too. At least I got that out in one piece to use as a template. The front chairs are being replaced since I found some online (new) for less $$$ than my local upholsterer could re-foam and cover for. The barrel chairs and sofa will have to be re-done, I'm just waiting on the same upholsterer to tell me how much fabric it'll take so I can order matching stuff from the front chair supplier. That bill's gonna hurt. The 22 yo mattress is history, too. I don't plan to spend a single night on that funky old thing! I'm hoping to get most of the interior finished in the next month or two so I can move it into my shop for the suspension and brake overhauls before fall. Anyone with tips and/or warnings about HRs should post so I don't make too many expensive mistakes! Brian |

'wow ! Thanks... Right now the HR's sitting in storage in Ohio, and I'm in Texas for a while....which is no way to get much done... I found out that if you drive in a pounding rainstorm, even if you miss the tornado, the hole in the roof where the a/c is still leaks! However the good news is that hopefully with a tuneup, she'll be running well! Hi Brian! I had to get the front air bags replaced as well... CW did them... they were on only a couple of weeks, but they'd drop flat overnight .... seems the installer forgot to tighten the very front part before the valve stems... so he replaced all the air lines .... Do you have ceiling carpet in yours? That needs to go in mine...uuugggllyy!!!!! All I need now to get new is a new wiper and washer system, and check the lp, the genny, and everything else inside! But I did also get a new mattress. The previous owners got new Captain's chairs, couch and rocker, as well as installing a very ugly but new green rug. But that'll work just fine...Also a new Fridge, but kept the stove since it's a 4 burner. Ok, "new" meaning it's sat in the driveway for the past 8-10 years! But they did keep it clean. But at least it runs! So that's progress! Nice to see you posting here....Got any pics? I pbly wont' be on much unless I get get the laptop running again.... blue screen of death... and the system disks are in Ohio..... Using a friends' puter. All my pics are on my not working puter.... Thanks, Mary |

Been a little busy the last couple weeks. I've got pics, but haven't had the time to post 'em from home, yet. My engine runs nice. It's original with about 70k miles, about the only issue is a very minor oil leak (rear seal,I think) and the normal exhaust leak at the manifold. The tranny has about 1,000 miles on a fresh rebuild, by the previous owner. The genny has about 380 hrs, cranks and runs easy. I discovered an electrical gremlin on the homeward trip, entire coach went dead a few times, then restarted and ran great each time. As near as I can figure, I'll have to get under and check/clean/retighten all the grounds and main battery cable connections. I'll have to replace one of the house batteries soon before it kills the good one. I suspect that I'll have to get an OPD valve installed when I run the propane tank dry, but I hope that'll be a while yet. Most of my work lately has been adding a layer of thin masonite to the floor as a semi-level support for the linoleum-type tile I'm planning to put down for the Fourth, Fifth, Sixth...! Interior-wise, the appliances are in good shape and work - except for the icemaker. That's being replaced with a residential model I found online, new Dometic icemakers are in the $1000 range. The original may get repaired when I can get it to someone I can trust not to charge me $600 to fix it! It does have that not-very-white carpet on the ceiling, but I don't want to rip that out anytime soon. The drapes gotta go, they're ugly and shot to heck. I also have a problem with the driver's side w/s wiper, I hope that's an easy fix or replace job and not another electrical gremlin. But the tires are recent, hold air and have tread to spare so that's a couple grand I get to keep for a little longer! So, nothing really expensive to fix or replace, just a lot of time spent puttering on little stuff. I'll try to get a pic or two posted before too much more time gets away from me. It's hard to believe that it's almost July and I haven't been camping yet this year, where'd the time go? The maiden trip for the HR isn't planned for October, so I've got a little to keep me busy until then. Brian |

| My 1985 Airstream 345 already has the OPD valve installed in the propane tank. Check first, you might already have one. |

I guess I have a lot to learn... What's an OPD valve? I haven't even gotten to the lp stuff yet.... was thinking I could just bring a foam cooler IF the water pump works and stay in a park in Ohio when I have to go back from Texas next week... at least try it for a couple of days.. electric, a bed and water should work .... no idea about the lp, at at this point, no $$$ to find out.... but I know the tank is empty..... Really have to figure out whether to sell the HR or not... Oh, and change the spark plugs... getting about 3mpg with the old plugs, they're pbly rusted and carboned up. Or maybe the gas pedal going to the floor a bit too often has something to do with it... Mary |
